The MP40 is a German submachine gun featured in all canon maps in Call of Duty: World at War and in Kino der Toten and Call of the Dead of Call of Duty: Black Ops. The MP40 also appears in some non-canon creations as well.
The MP40 can be bought off the wall or from the Mystery Box. It possesses a moderate rate of fire, high power, moderate recoil, and decent accuracy, depending on how the player uses it. It is a rather great weapon to use in the early and mid rounds, and can be used even further without being Pack-a-Punched if the player goes for headshots. However, if used carelessly, the MP40 will become useless and will run out of ammo quickly.
The Pack-a-Punched MP40 becomes "The Afterburner," possessing twice the magazine size, more ammo, and more power. Because of this, it can be used even into later rounds flawlessly, unless if the player goes for lower body shots or uses it carelessly. The MP40 can prove to be useful until about round 30, where it becomes virtually useless, as most other weapons do.
- This is one of Edward Richtofen's favorite weapons. This is easily seen when he says, "Well of course they have the best weapon ever made here!"
