The MG42 is a German machine gun that is featured in all maps in Call of Duty: World at War.
Available only from the Mystery Box. It has a high rate of fire, but less damage compared to the Browning M1919. It has a 125 round drum magazine, which is why Speed Cola is naturally recommended every time the player chooses this gun, as it has a long reloading time. It is very effective against zombies in the early and mid rounds, but the player is still advised to go for head shots whenever possible so that it could easily conserve ammo. Double Tap is not recommended with this weapon, as it burns through ammunition very quickly and leaves the player out of ammo during the later, more intense rounds.
Once Pack-a-Punched Tthe MG42 becomes the "Barracuda FU-A11," gaining not only a higher rate of damage, but also a 150 round magazine, faster rate of fire, and 750 rounds in reserve instead of just 500. It is best as a camping weapon, as its weight does not contribute to running around and its long reload time may slow the player as well. The weapon's high power, however, will assist the player in taking out a horde if they are stationary, and is considered one of the best weapons in the series.
